Search Fairhaven WA Homes For Sale
Way back when, before the town of Bellingham was formed, there was a little burg on Bellingham Bay just south of Whatcom...Called Fairhaven. If you're lucky enough to be looking for a home to buy in Fairhaven, or just perusing Fairhaven real estate for sale in general, here's a little info you may find useful:
Fairhaven was founded in the latter part of the 19th Century...officially incorporated in 1890. Daniel Jefferson "Dirty Dan" harris arrived here in 1854...eventually owning 200 acres in what is now the heart of the Fairhaven Historical District. Today Harris Street is the main drag through town, heading down to the water where the Greyhound and Amtrak Stations are, as well as the Southern Terminus for the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System, where one catches the Alaska bound ferry.
Fairhaven real estate has maintained an historic 1800's motif to a great degree. Although there has been a considerable amount of recent commercial development in Fairhaven, one still perceives a feeling of a bygone era in Fairhaven. Boutiques and shops, cafes, restaurants and bars all abound. There is a lively air here.
I've sold many classic older homes in the areas around Fairhaven. South Hill, just to the north, posesses gorgeous view homes from the 1890's to the present. Homeowners seem to have a fine sense of ownership on South hill. Edgemoor, just to the south, has more modern styled homes than South Hill but also seems to have a keen sense of ownership. Happy Valley, just to the east, has a mix of eclectic folks and students from nearby WWU. Lots of condos abound as well, from million dollar luxury saltwater-view condos for sale to inexpensive units close to Fairhaven's core.
