Each August, artists of all ages and abilities gather together to create chalk masterpieces on the sidewalks of downtown Bellingham . This popular summer event has been proudly sponsored by Allied Arts of Whatcom County for the last 12 years.

Dubbed a “Premier Northwest Summer Music Festival” by A&E Television, the Bellingham Festival of Music was established in 1993. Since its first year, the Festival of Music has presented more than 150 concerts with well-known artists like Heidi Grant Murphy, The Miami String Quartet and Richard Stoltzman. Attracting more than 10,000 national and international visitors each year, the Festival runs for sixteen days in August at both indoor and outdoor venues.

The Bellingham Highland Games are held for two-days each June. Featuring entertainment and athletic competitions, the Highland Games have something for everyone. To piping and drumming competitions to dancing and music, the Highland Games are a lively, fun-filled event not to be missed.

Each year for one week during the summer the city of Blaine holds its annual jazz festival for teens. In addition to musician workshops, combos, and rehearsals, public concerts are held at various venues including Blaine’s Marine Park and the Village Green in Fairhaven.

Held at the Deming Log Show Grounds for one weekend each June, loggers perform feats of strength as well as daredevil stunts. The log show also offers exhibits, a BBQ, and RV parking.
Discovery Days Festival
Birch Bay hosts the Discovery Days Festival for one weekend every July. Featuring a popular, patriotic themed parade, the festival also offers an arts and crafts fair, delicious “fair food,” pony rides, and a golf tournament.

For more than 75 years, the towns of Everson and Nooksack offer area residents and visitors a weekend long summer festival featuring craft vendors, a pancake breakfast, a barbecue, and live entertainment. Festivities also include a parade, children’s games, and a flea market.

Since 1980, Allied Arts of Whatcom County has sponsored the Holiday Festival of Arts, bringing the work of local artists and crafters to the community. The festival typically begins in mid-November and continuing through Christmas Eve. In addition to featuring artist demonstrations and handmade gifts by more than 100 local artisans, entertainment is provided by local musicians.
Mt. Baker Blues Festival
For those who enjoy music festivals, the weekend-long Mt. Baker Blues Festival won’t disappoint. Now in its tenth year, this popular Deming festival received the 2004 BB Award for Best Blues Event by the Washington Blues society. In past years, the festival has featured jazz greats like Hubert Sumlin, Jerry Miller’s Blues Starts, and Magic Slim and the Teardrops. In addition, the festival offers foods and crafts.

With a history dating back to the early 20th century, the Ski to Sea Festival is a favorite of Whatcom County competitors and spectators. With seven different legs to the race, relay teams compete in cross-country and downhill skiing, running, bicycling, canoeing, mountain biking, and sea kayaking. The team with the best time wins. Like all well-planned festivals, the Ski to Sea Festival offers kick-off and celebration events as well as a parade to add to the fun!

In 2005, Mount Vernon and the Skagit Valley will hold the 22nd annual Tulip Festival. Celebrating more than 100 years, Ferndale’s Pioneer Park is the focal point for the annual Old Settlers Picnic. Featuring tours of turn-of-the-century log homes, the picnic offers vintage costumes, arts and crafts, a fun run, a carnival, several parades and dances, a car show, lawnmower races, and plenty of delicious foods and desserts.
